Obstetrics is in crisis in South Africa, with doctors paying close to a million rands for Medical malpractice insurance. It’s estimated that, by 2020, there may not be enough obstetricians in private practice because expensive medical indemnity insurance is driving them away from the profession, leaving patients in the hands of an already overburdened state healthcare system.
