David Patient

South African Aids activist David Patient died at the age of 56. Diagnosed as far back as 1983, Patient was an icon in the age of HIV stigma and an activist for LGBTQI rights. For 34 years he showed that it was possible to live ‘positively’ with HIV. Carte Blanche reflects on his remarkable will to survive and victory over the idea that his diagnosis was a death sentence.
